M-10-P Miniature U/W Transducer
GENERAL
The M-10-P transducer is designed for
industrial applications including underwater communications
operating
in
the speech frequency range. The transducer can be used as
either
an output transducer, converting an electrical input to vibratory
force
or sound pressure, or as an input transducer, converting sound
pressure
or vibratory force to electrical energy. When used as an
output
transducer,
the device can function as an underwater speaker or bone
vibrator.
In the bone vibrator mode, the unit is placed against the users
head
(mastoid
or cheek bone area), and audio information is transferred directly
to
the
inner ear without the need for a conducting medium.
Conversely as
an input transducer, the unit functions as a hydrophone picking up
air-borne
or vibratory energy.
DESCRIPTION
The M-10-P is an
electro magnetic device
operating
on the mass reaction principle. Very small air gaps provide
high
efficiency and are held accurately in position with a four-leg
leaf
spring.
A highly permeable nickel alloy armature and an Alnico magnet are
also
a part of the rugged system. The M-10-P has a 10' shielded
RG
174/U
cable epoxy sealed into the case to prevent water entry. All
case
seams are epoxy sealed and the device and cable entry area are
potted
in
vacuum degassed mil-spec hydrolytic stable urethane.
MECHANICAL

Weight: 20 grams - 0.64 oz (less cable)
Cable: 10' RG 174/U shielded (0.254 cm
- 0.1" diameter)
Connector: Unterminated
Dims (LWH): 3.0cm x 1.88cm x 1.55cm -
1.18" x 0.74" x 0.61"
ELECTRICAL
Impedance: 10 ohms @ 1kHz
D.C. Resistance: 3 ohms
PERFORMANCE CURVE

Test conditions - Unit mounted on a
Bruel
& Kjaer 4930 artificial mastoid. The static load is 5.4
Newton. Unit driven from low impedance source with test
level 0.1
Vrms (1.0mW). The input level remained constant as the
frequency
varied. An input level 20dB in excess of the test level (1.0
Vrms
100mW max) can be employed with no measurable effect on the
device,
however levels significantly higher may cause distortion and
heating
depending on the type of signal and its duration.
